About OutdoorPowerData and our methodology

OutdoorPowerData is a free, independent specs database for outdoor power equipment. Mowers come first, generators second, and both link to a shared engine layer, so you can see every machine that uses the same engine.

Where the numbers come from

What each label means

Verified
Quoted from an official document on the cited page, with the model identity proven for that document and no open review issues.
Derived
Calculated from verified values and labeled “derived” with the method. None are published yet.
As published
A figure the maker publishes without the conditions needed to compare it, such as a noise level without a test distance. Shown with the caveat and left out of comparison tables.
Sources disagree
Two official documents give different values and neither is provably newer by printed date. Both are shown with their sources.
Not yet verified
A reading that failed a check, for example “up to” wording, a positional read of a shared brochure column, or a part number from a non-official source. We never show these values.

On the published pages today: 1281 verified values, 21 where sources disagree, 12 shown as published with a caveat, and 89 held as “not yet verified”.

Newer documents and revisions

A value replaces another only when its document is strictly newer by printed dates on both. Undated pages and file-metadata dates never decide. Different SKUs, model numbers, deck options and serial-range revisions are separate variants and are never merged.

Engine links

A machine is linked to an engine only when an engine model or spec number is printed on an official document for that machine. Weaker matches, such as a family name or a missing suffix, are held as “not yet verified”. Some engine records are built only from the equipment maker's documents; those pages say so, and each value is scoped “as installed in” the named machine.

Recalls

Recalls come only from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). We query CPSC recall data, match model and engine names, and judge each match by hand. When nothing matches we print “No CPSC recall found as of” the check date, with a link to search CPSC yourself. A recall listed here usually covers only certain serial or spec numbers; use the recall lookup.

Accuracy

A random audit of 36 verified values, each re-read against its page, found 0 errors in the 30 values built for this site and 1 in the 6 migrated generator values (an oil grade missing its temperature condition). That rule was fixed and the affected values moved to “not yet verified”. A sample this size cannot prove the error rate is below about 10%, so please report anything wrong through the contact page.
